“Spirit Into Sound” Album Review by the Chicago Tribune

Famous for his three decades of drumming with the Grateful Dead, Mickey Hart is also noted for the rhythmic excursions of his percussion ensemble, Planet Drum, and his work as an author whose latest book, a collection of insights into the art of music-making, shares its title with this recording. The album, composed by Hart and Planet Drum member Rebeca Mauleon, is a low-key polyglot of world-music styles, emphasizing rhythm, but paying plenty of attention to melody as well. Standouts include the gorgeous vocal number "Sueno Tropicale" and the exotic, meditative "Indian Night."
