Epilogue
This tour has been so much fun for all of us. Usually at the end of a tour you've had it, it's over and done with. This tour is different. I am almost sad with the thought of the end. We all need to rest, but I know this is not the last time around. It is my hope that this circus will continue next year. We have made a lot of new friends and hopefully made this world a little better and kinder place.
These are the times when our energy is needed most. The world is on fire with hate and misunderstandings. War looms in our future and the environment is at serious risk. These are the days when we must do what ever it takes to put the world back on track. Music for us is that energy that may just mediate our deepest fears and problems.
The music tonight was spirited and deep in a unique way. We all knew it was a job well done these 3 weeks and the last note should be an energized one. Sitting on top of the world was so cool. This used to be a high point as it let Pigpen out of his cage for an organ solo. The porker was so unique in his sound and approach. Whenever I hear this song he comes to mind.
Bob surprised us all with his rendition of Standing On the Moon. This brought back my Jerry vibe, as he sang this so soulfully. Bob gets this song and delivers a strong heartfelt version.
It is strange that we always end our tour here in Chicago. This was the place of our last show in 1995 and here we are again.
We finished the 2nd set strong with a powerful Terrapin and Flyer. A sizzling I know you Rider and Truckin put the period on the last statement.
My road does not end here in Chicago today. I am off to Washington DC in the morning for a special event at the Library of Congress. The History Channel is doing a special on the Save Our History / Save Our Sounds, (a one hour documentary, premiering on the on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002 at 8 p.m. ET/PT), and I have been invited to the Great Hall at the Library of Congress to be part of this event. Stand by for my report this, as well as my various endeavors and enthusiams.
